Hollywood on Broadway:
Actors Go from Screen to Stage
Daniel Radcliffe. Boy wizard actor Daniel Radcliffe bares it all on stage in a revival of Peter Shaffer’s Tony Award-wining play “Equus,” which opened in New York on Sept. 25 at the Broadhurst Theatre. Radcliffe will be reprising the controversial role of Alan Strang in his Broadway debut, a part he previously played in 2007 in London’s West End.
Katie Holmes. Mrs. Tom Cruise had her breakout role playing wordy Mass. teen Joey Potter on “Dawson’s Creek” from 1998 to 2003 and has appeared in a string of mediocre film roles since. Holmes (right, with “Dawson’s Creek” costar James Van Der Beek) makes her Broadway debut this fall as Ann Deever in a revival of Arthur Miller’s “All My Sons.” The production also stars fellow screen and stage actors John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest, and Patrick Wilson (whose recent film “Lakeview Terrace” just hit theaters.)
Haley Joel Osment. A grown-up Haley Joel Osment (right, who’s now 20) of “I see dead people” fame will appear on stage in “American Buffalo” in 2008. The show, which opens in New York on Nov. 17, also stars John Leguizamo and will be the Broadway debut for actor and comedian Cedric the Entertainer.
Jeremy Piven. In the upcoming “Speed-the-Plow” at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, Jeremy Piven (right with Adrian Grenier on “Entourage”) makes his Broadway debut as Bobby Gould, a Hollywood producer torn between making art and making money. No stranger to the spotlight, Piven previously took a turn on the stage in an off-Broadway production of Neil LaBute’s “Fat Pig” at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in 2004 alongside fellow famous faces Keri Russell and Andrew McCarthy.
Kathleen Turner. Kathleen Turner (center) already had an impressive filmography by the time she started her Broadway career. In 1990 she appeared in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” and earned a Tony Award for her debut performance. Later she played the infamous Mrs. Robinson in “The Graduate” (pictured) on stages in both London and New York. The Broadway show in 2002 also starred Jason Biggs (right) and the Broadway debut performance of Alicia Silverstone (left) alongside the seductive Turner.
